GHOST PLANET

A world in peril. A bond deeper than love.

Psychologist Elizabeth Cole prepared for the worst when she accepted a job on a newly discovered world – a world where every colonist is tethered to an alien who manifests in the form of a dead loved one. But she never expected she’d struggle with the requirement to shun these “ghosts.” She never expected to be so attracted to the charming Irishman assigned as her supervisor. And she certainly never expected to discover she died in a transport crash en route to the planet.

Reincarnated as a ghost, Elizabeth is symbiotically linked to her supervisor, Murphy – creator of the Ghost Protocol, which forbids him to acknowledge or interact with her. Confused and alone – oppressed by her ghost status and tormented by forbidden love – Elizabeth works to unlock the secrets of her own existence.

But her quest for answers lands her in a tug-of-war between powerful interests, and she soon finds herself a pawn in the struggle for control of the planet…a struggle that could separate her forever from the man she loves.

Goodbye to WordPress

After fighting a constant battle to figure out WordPress, I’ve decided it’s no longer worth my time. There’s so much more I need to do, and that will be more worthwhile. Since I’m in the process of setting up a website and have a Blogger site that I CAN work with easily, this site will become redundant. I’m going to leave it up and live because of the resources on here (and which I will keep updated) – the Book Reviewers list, the contact details etc, but I’ll be blogging from my other site here
My apologies, but WordPress has beaten me.

Hello! Welcome to another #sffsat post. Still with Samaritan this week. I’m afraid I left you hanging an extra week, and I can’t promise to give much away with this snippet either. :-P

Two more pounced in unison, and Quin swept her blade in from the right to impale the nearest. The blow knocked it into its companion. Again, several of the creatures devoured the fallen, but one fastened its teeth into Quin’s ankle and she yelped. She slashed at it with her blade, felt it slice through. The creature convulsed and jerked away, whining and injured, to fall victim to its own pack.

So many casualties, or perhaps it was the scent of blood, sparked the whole pack into a frenzy. They surged forward. Quin opened her hand, palm outward, and a blue-white ball of energy scattered the creatures like shattering glass.

Hello! Welcome back to another #sffsat post. Thanks to all those who stop by and comment. We’re still with Quin in the abandoned city, and at long last I’m giving you a clear sight of the things in the shadows. You might have preferred to miss it…

Quin bunched her free hand into a fist as the shapes sidled closer. Several whimpering sounds came from the creatures as they were forced to edge into the light by the sheer volume of their companions. Sleek, canine shapes like short-legged greyhounds, their hides night-black and gleaming, eyes fierce white stars in the narrow skulls as they crept closer, hemming her in. Quin shivered. Their long pointed heads looked like skulls with the skin stretched too tight, razor teeth protruding from their jaws. Even though they were small and their limbs fragile-looking, the sheer number could probably drag her down with ease.

One, either less cautious or more desperate than the rest, leapt at her. More by instinct than skill she slashed at it with the blade and it fell back with a yelp. Within seconds its nearest companions ripped its body to shreds and ran back into the shadows to eat their scraps.

Cannibals, Quin shuddered, but that gave her another fragment of hope: if she could kill two or three to distract at least some of the pack …

…aaaand you’ll have to wait until next week to find that out. :-P BTW, the image isn’t exactly how I see these nasty little critters but the ‘skin’ is right and I love the picture.

Hello, welcome to another #sffsat snippet. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to comment last week. Continuing with Quin’s disturbing trip through the abandoned city, and she gets a closer look at the things in the shadows. Now she wishes she hadn’t…

Quin took a moment to wipe her sweat-slicked palms down her clothing before gripping her blade in readiness. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps as she braced herself. The shapes gathered together and wove closer, focusing in on her presence. They kept themselves out of the light as if afraid of its touch, circling around the dark edges in a seething mass.

One blade isn’t going to be much help. The thought focused her mind with cold clarity and she reached inside herself for the wayward tendrils of her psi powers. They came grudgingly, tiny sparks of blue-white energy that spiked over her skin as they trickled into her hand. Flickers of miniature lightning gathered around her fingers, but even without looking she could tell how feeble they were. One shot of telekinesis was all she could rouse.

Hello, welcome back to another #sffsat snippet this fine morning. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to comment last week. This time, Quin is still making her way through the abandoned city. At least, she’d thought it was abandoned…

A skittering sound caught the edge of her hearing and she stopped. Fear prickled down her spine as though tiny claws had raced over her skin. Could be sand sliding off a building, something caught in the breeze …

Something moved on the edge of her vision, and she spun toward it, heart pounding. Okay, now I’m officially freaked out. More scrabbling sounds came from different directions, and she backed hurriedly toward a doorway for cover. Dark shapes darted between the shadows cast by the buildings. Sleek, small shapes that moved too fast for her to identify. Lots and lots of shapes.

Morning all! Long time, no see and all that. Welcome to another #sffsat snippet. With Keir out and about, I’m working on a new #scifi short story I’m hoping to self-publish in the near future (actually, I’ve been saying that about it since January, but hey!). This is Samaritan. Quin, the heroine from Keir but some years before, has found herself on a dead planet who knows where, and rescued by a strange construct she nicknames Sam (taken from good Samaritan). Sam has brought Quin to a city and ‘requested’ that she find her own way to a tower in the centre. But Quin isn’t entirely happy…

Buildings rose around her. They were all of the same dark metallic material as the shelter that she’d shared with Sam, and just as layered in dust. The buildings were dark and silent. No trace of power glimmered anywhere. The only sound came from her feet shuffling through the sand, her steps cautious and the blade clenched in her right hand.

“I don’t like abandoned cities,” she told the air as she walked, more to fill the silence than in the expectation anyone could hear. “I mean, there’s always a good reason why they’re abandoned, isn’t there? Something this big–well, I can’t imagine everyone just got up one day and decided to leave. And I’m guessing that the force-field was designed to keep something out. Or to keep something in?”
